Join us at the Girls on the Run NYC 5k!
Sunday, December 10, 2017
Icahn Stadium on Randall's Island
Pre-5k Activities open at 9:00 AM • 5k Run/Walk begins at 10:30 AM
We believe everyone who participates in our 5k – whether they run, walk, hop, skip or cartwheel across the finish line – is to be honored and congratulated. The Girls on the Run NYC 5k celebrates our girls and their 10-week season of learning about the importance of taking care of our emotional and physical health. We invite you to join us in this special celebration!
Please Note: Girls on the Run program participants and coaches do not register for the 5k.
As girls from across our area come together to achieve their goals on 5k day, they will be depending on volunteers like you to help them shine! All volunteers must complete a background check.
Below are descriptions of our 5k volunteer opportunities:
Activity Stations: Volunteers help generate excitement for the girls and families before the 5k with the happy hair station and the photo booth.
Course Marshal: Volunteers serve as cheerleaders along the girls and their running buddies! They will also help to ensure safety of all participants.
Field Set-up: Volunteers set-up and break down team site flags, tables and water near the finish line.
Registration: Volunteers help check-in runners & distribute t-shirts and bibs to 5k participants.
Water Station: Volunteers will hand out water to 5k participants and encourage them along the way.
5k Run/Walk Categories:
Running Buddy: If you know a girl participating in Girls on the Run or Heart & Sole, you can be a Running Buddy! As a parent, guardian, or family friend, you support a girl throughout the entire 5k by running or walking alongside her, providing positive reinforcement throughout the entire course. Running buddies must be 18 years or older.
- Running Buddy PARENT is a parent/guardian of a girl in the program.
- Running Buddy FRIEND is a relative, teacher, or friend of the participant's family selected by the parent/guardian to run with their daughter at the 5k!
Sparkle Runner: Sparkle Runners (females) will be paired with one of our Girls on the Run teams and get a chance to run the course, cheering on all girls. Sparkle Runners are also strongly encouraged to attend a GOTR team's practice in mid-November! All Sparkle Runners must complete a background check.
5k Runner: Younger siblings and friends are encouraged to join in on the fun and may participate as a 5k runner. This category is also great for any other adult and youth participants who would like to run this fun, non-timed 5k.
Register to volunteer as a team: Invite your colleagues and friends to join you as a volunteer or runner at our 5k! You can register a team and invite all of your members to join your team when they sign up as a volunteer. Contact us at email@example.com for more information on team volunteer opportunities.
Girls on the Run 5k SoleMate Fundraising Opportunity:
Girls on the Run NYC has made a commitment to serve ALL girls, regardless of financial need. You can support this commitment by joining us as a 5k SoleMate and raising funds that help to ensure we can provide our life-changing program to more girls in New York City. As we continue to experience growth, we need your help. Click here to learn more about being a 5k SoleMate for the Girls on the Run NYC Fall 5k and the incentives you are eligible for if you join in the fun!
The registration fee of $35 per registration for our Running Buddies, Sparkle Runners, 5k Runners, and $10 per registration for our Volunteers, supports our overall program and our 5k costs, including a background check on each non-Parent/Guardian Running Buddy, Sparkle Runner and General Volunteer. All participants and volunteers will also receive a shirt.
Girls on the Run NYC is not able to give refunds for 5k registrations. If you can no longer participate in the event, your registration will be considered a donation to the Girls on the Run NYC program.
Inclement Weather Policy:
5k participants should be prepared to run in any weather. The 5k event will take place rain or shine unless there are conditions that may affect the safety and health of the participants. If dangerous weather conditions occur, race officials may cancel, delay or change the event. In the event of cancellation, refunds will not be issued.
5k Run/Walk Course:
The course starts and finishes in Icahn Stadium on Randall's Island. After one partial lap on the track, 5k participants go out of the stadium along the river for an out-and-back course. Participants finish on the track inside the stadium.
