Today we feature Jodi – a 2014 NYC Marathon SoleMate, a past 2013 NYC SoleMate, as well as a Girls on the Run NYC Coach!
Tell us about you!
I'm originally from Vernon, NJ, and I work at New York University at the Tisch School of the Arts.
When did you start running and why?
I've been running for a long time off and on. When I moved to NYC, my best friend was training for the marathon. I never thought I would be able to do it but she inspired me to try. I am now on my third!
Why did you choose to support Girls on the Run?
Since I moved to the city 10 years ago, I always wanted to volunteer but wanted it to be something that I felt connected to. I believe in supporting and nurturing women (of all ages) and Girls on the Run combines my passion for running with that. I have run twice for Girls on the Run for the marathon and I have also assistant coached as well as ran as a buddy for the 5K challenges. This is a magnificent organization and I am proud to participate in any way I can.
What tips do you have for other marathoners and SoleMates?
Don't try to win the marathon, just do the best you can! If you are upset about a time, take off the watch and enjoy the run. You've worked hard for it, don't let 30 seconds or 30 minutes ruin something you have worked so hard for!
Congratulations, Jodi, on your accomplishments!
We are grateful for all that you have done for Girls on the Run NYC!
