Kelly Suchman, a native New Yorker and recent Duke University graduate, is one of our 2015 NYC Marathon SoleMates!
What motivated you to run in the New York City Marathon this year?
I was motivated to run the New York City Marathon because, as a native New Yorker, it was always been my dream to run the marathon in my home city. I just graduated from Duke and am home taking a gap year before medical school, so what better time than now to run it!
Why did you choose to support Girls on the Run?
I chose to fundraise for Girls on the Run as it seemed like an amazing organization that I wanted to be a part of. I am passionate about helping children live healthy, active lives. This passion arose from mentoring an adolescent girl in Durham through Big Brothers Big Sisters, and volunteering for an organization called Bull City Fit which designed after school activity sessions for overweight children in Durham to help promote healthy lifestyles.
What tip do you have for other SoleMates?
Never give up!! Stay mentally strong, even when you're physically tired.
What is your favorite running accessory?
Definitely my iPod. Can't run without Taylor Swift!
What is your favorite run in NYC?
I live by Central Park and love to run around the reservoir. The breeze off the water is great on a hot day!
"Running has always served as a way to relieve stress and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Especially at college, running served as a great escape from stressful academics."
