Today we are shining the spotlight on Viki Ng, one of our SoleMates for the 2016 TCS New York City Marathon!
Why are you running for Girls on the Run? Because it's a great program that teaches young girls what took me years to learn personally as an adult new to running, which provides amazing benefits both physically and emotionally. There's nothing better than feeling confident in yourself and your ability to push beyond your limits, and running is a great (and easier) way to learn how to do so.
Is this your first marathon? Yes, it will be my first! I'm half excited and half nervous since I've never broken the half marathon barrier - and for now it feels more mental than anything.
Favorite place to run? In Prospect Park or anywhere along the river.
Favorite time of day to run? First thing in the morning since I always feel the worst when I start, but end up feeling the best and accomplished after I've finished.
Favorite post-run snack/meal? Lots of pancakes or French toast dowsed in maple syrup!
Favorite running accessory? My Garmin GPS watch - knowing how far and fast I'm running is super motivating.
Group or solo run? Solo for easy runs and group for harder runs where I want to push myself.
What shoes do you run in? Brooks Adrenaline and Launch (I like to switch between).
Favorite non-running activity? Eating! And finding new restaurants to try.
Farthest distance you’ve run? 13.1 miles
Inspirational Quote/Words to Live By? "Pain is inevitable. Suffering is optional" - Haruki Murakami
What’s your Myers-Briggs? ISFJ - I'm a "Defender" :)
