Pre-5k Activities open at 9:00 AM • 5k Run/Walk begins at 10:30 AM

The Girls on the Run NYC 5k celebrates our girls and their 10-week season of learning about the importance of taking care of our emotional and physical health. 

Online registration is now closed. Day of registration will be available on December 9 starting at 9 am for $45 for 5k Runners and Parent Running Buddies.

Advance Shirt & Bib Pick-up for Registered Runners

Visit us in advance to pick up your very special GOTR 5k shirt & bib for the event! This is ONLY for registered runners, and NOT for girls or coaches in the program. We strongly encourage you to visit us before the 5k so you can wear your shirt to the event and avoid lines day of! Visit us:

  • SATURDAY, DECEMBER 8 from 11 am – 4 pm at Athleta Flatiron (126 5th Ave, New York) *Athleta will also be hosting a customization station for shoppers, where you can put a personal touch on gear! Cost $10 per item.

Pre-5k Fun - Check out our Activity Stations!

Our activity stations are open on the concourse level at Icahn Stadium from 9 am to 10 am!

  • Cheer Sign Station: Join us here to create a personalized sign for your girls on the run. You can share why you love running or walking too!

  • Photo Booth: Take a photo with your friends with our great GOTR backdrop! Share your photos on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram with #GOTR5k to celebrate our girls & volunteers!

  • Happy Hair Station: Colored hairspray is available for all to GOTRize yourself!

  • Bling Your Bib Frame: Girls can decorate a frame to save their #1 GOTR Bib after the 5k. You'll find stickers, markers and glitter!

  • STAR Power Stories: 5k Participants will share what GOTR and Heart & Sole has taught them this season, to share with everyone!

  • GOTR SHOP: Girls on the Run NYC shirts, hats, and other fun items will be available for purchase! Cash and cards accepted.

What to Wear to the 5k

We recommend you wear layers including a hat and gloves. You should definitely wear your Girls on the Run 5k Shirt, Program Shirt (for girls), or Coach Shirt! You can visit our GOTR Shop at the 5k, too.

Girls on the Run NYC has made a commitment to serve ALL girls, regardless of financial need. You can support this commitment by joining us as a 5k SoleMate and raising funds that help to ensure we can provide our life-changing program to more girls in New York City. How to get to Icahn Stadium on Randall's Island:

Girls on the Run Shuttle Bus: Girls on the Run will have yellow school buses that will run between 125th Street at Lexington Avenue in Manhattan and Icahn Stadium beginning at 8:30 am. *Shuttle Buses for volunteers will begin at 7:30 am. These buses will pick-up and drop-off at the southeast corner of 125th St and Lexington Avenue, in front of the former PathMark store (adjacent to the 4/5/6 subway stop). Girls on the Run Volunteer Bus Captains will be present to greet you and point you in the right direction.

More 5k Event Details:

Registration Fee:
The registration fee of $35 per registration for our Running Buddies, Sparkle Runners, 5k Runners, and $10 per registration for our Volunteers, supports our overall program and our 5k costs, including a background check on each non-Parent/Guardian Running Buddy, Sparkle Runner and General Volunteer. All participants and volunteers will also receive a shirt. 

Day of registration will be available at 9 am for $45 for 5k Runners and Parent Running Buddies. Shirts are not guaranteed for day of registrants.

Refund Policy:
Girls on the Run NYC is not able to give refunds for 5k registrations. If you can no longer participate in the event, your registration will be considered a donation to the Girls on the Run NYC program.

Inclement Weather Policy:
5k participants should be prepared to run in any weather. The 5k event will take place rain or shine unless there are conditions that may affect the safety and health of the participants. If dangerous weather conditions occur, race officials may cancel, delay or change the event. In the event of cancellation, refunds will not be issued.

5k Run/Walk Course:
The course starts and finishes in Icahn Stadium on Randall's Island. After one partial lap on the track, 5k participants go out of the stadium along the river for an out-and-back course. Participants finish on the track inside the stadium.

Registration Close Dates:
Online registration for the 5k will close on the following dates.

  • Volunteers: December 1 at 12 pm

  • Sparkle Runners: December 1 at 12 pm

  • Running Buddies: December 6 at 12 pm

  • 5k Runners: December 6 at 12 pm

Volunteer Roles:

As girls from across our area come together to achieve their goals on 5k day, they will be depending on volunteers like you to help them shine! The volunteer registration fee is $10, and includes an event t-shirt. All volunteers must complete a background check.

You can sign up as an individual volunteer, or recruit friends & colleagues and sign up as a team! Questions about team volunteer opportunities? Email us at

Below are our 5k volunteer opportunities:

  • Activity Stations:  Volunteers help generate excitement for the girls and families before the 5k with the happy hair station and the photo booth. Arrival time: 8 am

  • Course Marshal:  Volunteers serve as cheerleaders along the course for the girls and their running buddies! They will also help to ensure safety of all participants. Arrival time: 9 am

  • Field Set-up: Volunteers set-up and break down team site flags on the field, and manage safety & support for teams on the field. *May require lifting of items. Arrival time: 7:30 am

  • Registration: Volunteers help check-in runners & distribute t-shirts and bibs to 5k participants. Arrival time: 7:45 am

  • Water Station: Volunteers will hand out water to 5k participants and encourage them along the way. *Must be able to walk up to 1 mile. Arrival time: 8:30 am

5k Run/Walk Categories:

*Online registration for 5k runners/walkers is now closed. Day of registration is available from 9 am to 10 am on December 9 at Icahn Stadium.

Running Buddy: If you know a girl participating in Girls on the Run or Heart & Sole, you can be a Running Buddy! You support a girl throughout the entire 5k by running/walking alongside her. Running buddies must  be 18 years or older. The registration fee is $35 and includes a tech shirt. Running Buddy registration will close on Thursday, December 6 at 12 pm!

  • Running Buddy PARENT is a parent/guardian of a girl in the program.

  • Running Buddy FRIEND is someone selected by the parent/guardian of a girl in the program to run with their daughter at the 5k! This could be a family friend, other relative, or a teacher.

5k Runner: 
Younger siblings and friends are encouraged to join in on the fun and may participate as a 5k runner. This category is also great for all adult and youth participants who would like to run this fun, non-timed 5k. The registration fee is $35 for ages 18 and older, $30 for ages 17 and younger, and includes a tech shirt. 5k Runner registration will close on Thursday, December 6 at 12 pm!

Sparkle Runner: 
*Sparkle runner registration is now closed. Sparkle Runners will be paired with one of our Girls on the Run teams and get a chance to run the course, cheering on all girls. This category is open to females ages 18 and up. All Sparkle Runners must complete a background check. The registration fee is $35 and includes a tech shirt.
