Today, we feature the All Girls All NC State Awesome Relay Team: Wolfpack Nation - Rebecca Krebs, Susan Irvin & Allison Hauser - SoleMates who competed at the 2013 Aquaphor NYC Triathlon on July 14!
Why did you choose to support Girls on the Run NYC through your training/racing?
Rebecca: Luckily, I was asked to be a part of a relay team to support Girls on the Run NYC – it was an extreme honor to be part of such an amazing team while competing for a great cause!
Susan: I chose Girls on the Run NYC because it’s a fantastic organization that encourages young women to have healthy lifestyles, which aligns nicely with my own goals of encouraging others to live a happy and healthy life.
What was your favorite part of the triathlon?
Rebecca: The half mile barefoot run following the swim… – kidding! My favorite part of the triathlon was seeing all the different people compete to accomplish such a phenomenal goal.
Susan: My favorite part of the triathlon was seeing all of the fans that woke up early to support all of the athletes on an incredibly hot day.
What’s your #1 fundraising tip?
Rebecca: Be sure people are aware of Girls on the Run NYC and how wonderful of a program it is, once they know, they will be more interested to help reach the fundraising goal.
Susan: My best fundraising tip is to start fundraising as soon as possible after committing to a charity team. This way, the athlete can keep their goal in mind but not be burdened with the stress of raising funds at the last minute when training can also be intense.
What does being part of Girls on the Run NYC SoleMates mean to you?
Rebecca: Being a part of the Girls on the Run NYC: SoleMates means girl empowerment – Although I have not had the chance to work with the young girls yet, I love that the program teaches such a fun age group important life choices while developing strong character. I am looking forward to becoming more involved, Go Girls!!!
Susan: Being part of Girls on the Run NYC SoleMates means that I am a girl on the run, on the bike, or in the water!
At Girls on the Run NYC, we talk so much about teamwork – and it’s incredible to see the girls cheering each other on every practice. I enjoyed being on a TEAM so much myself for this triathlon! To find someone who loves swimming, and someone who loves biking, as much as I love running was such fun. I am proud of our all female relay team in the triathlon – both because of the hard work we put into the triathlon and our success that day, and because of the effort we made to raise funds to support the next generation of powerful, successful women who learn to embrace who they are through Girls on the Run.
