Today we're shining a spotlight on Dorothy Lee! Dorothy will be running her first marathon, the TCS New York Marathon, as a SoleMate in November!
Why Girls on the Run? I was first introduced to Girls on the Run as an idea for my Girl Scout Gold Award. From then on I have been able to bring the organization to my elementary school, coach two spring seasons of about 20 girls each, gather other volunteers to help sustain the program, and learn how important it is for a young girl to realize her full potential, set goals, and think outside the box. I have become passionate about teaching children to embrace themselves and Girls on the Run's entire mission. Girls on the Run has helped me become a better person just as much as it has helped all the superstar participants.
Is this your first marathon? This will be my first marathon and I cannot believe I can support my favorite charity while training for it!
Favorite place to run? In New Jersey, it is in my town where I can run through the park, rural areas, trails in the woods, and other running paths (Morristown, NJ). In New York, it is Battery Park City along the water and the piers.
Favorite time of day to run? On the weekends, I love running first thing in the morning as the sun is rising and when it is still cool outside. On the weekdays, after a long day and before the sun sets is a great time for me to relax and clear my mind.
Favorite post-run snack/meal? At school, I will mix a cup of Silk chocolate almond milk and skim milk and then head straight to the omelet station if it's open. At home, I love the refreshing taste of orange juice and making myself a smoothie.
Favorite running accessory? After I bought a running belt over the summer I have been wearing it for every run. I love being able to run hands-free and not worry about my keys falling out of my pocket.
Group or solo run? I enjoy both but lately most of my runs have been solo.
What shoes do you run in? I alternate between the different styles of ASICS shoes I have.
Favorite non-running activity? I love baking, being outside, and eating all kinds of food!
Farthest distance you’ve run? 22 miles!
Inspirational Quote/Words to Live By? "Run Happy." The Brooks motto :)
