Today we're shining a spotlight on Sinead Chalmers! Sinead will be a Girls on the Run NYC SoleMate for the TCS New York Marathon in November.
Why Girls on the Run? Growing up, I was very fortunate to be involved in local community athletic groups—mainly soccer and Irish dance teams. These groups were vital to my development. My coaches, teachers, and teammates fostered life-long friendships, self-esteem, goal-setting, and persistence. These experiences have provided cherished memories and essential skills to navigating everyday life as a young woman. GOTR does just that--- facilitating this important development and empowerment for young girls across the nation. I am in my second season coaching for a local chapter of GOTR—the girls challenge, inspire, and empower me every practice! It is an honor to accompany my sister (Aine), one of my best friends (Caitlyn D), and fellow GOTR supporters in journeying the 26.2 through the boroughs. Woohoo GIRL POWER!
Is this your first marathon? This will be my second marathon. I ran the Hartford Marathon last fall with my sister.
Favorite place to run? I love running outside. My neighborhood and Common Ave provides a challenging and scenic route.
Favorite time of day to run? Ideally, I would love to run in the morning but I am a chronic snoozer. Therefore, by default I am an evening runner, which provides essential “me time” and necessary de-stressor from the day. Getting a run in right after work is a great way to ease into my evening!
Favorite post-run snack/meal? Peanut butter. Lots of it!
Favorite running accessory? Music is a must have on my run—so my iPhone and Spotify playlists must be fully charged and ready to go!
Group or solo run? I am a solo runner but enjoy the opportunities to run in a group setting, especially when I make the trip down to New York to run with Aine and Caitlyn—a great way to train, push each other, and catch up!
What shoes do you run in? Nike Lunarglide
Favorite non-running activity? Hiking, quality time with friends and family, and trying new food spots with my roommates!
Farthest distance you’ve run? 26.2 (Hartford Marathon)
