We were grateful to have these amazing interns this summer!
Why did you decide to intern with Girls on the Run NYC?
Emma: I decided to intern with Girls on the Run NYC because when I saw the description of the internship and the mission of the organization I felt that it related very well to my future career interests in the sports management field. I felt that I would be able to receive a great experience in a business setting and gain skills that would hopefully set me apart from other people looking for jobs in this field.
Gabby: I decided to intern with Girls On The Run NYC because I found that I could really relate with the goal and mission of Girls On The Run. I think what Girls On The Run stands for is very important and I wanted to be a part of this life changing organization.
Kelsey: I decided to intern for Girls on the Run NYC because I wanted to gain experience working with a non profit to see the inner workings of an organization. When I discovered Girls on the Run, I immediately fell in love with their mission, inspiring girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident. After I decided to intern with Girls on the Run, I ran a spring 5K in South Carolina for the Greenville council and I couldn’t wait to be a part of this wonderful organization.
What was your favorite experience while interning at Girls on the Run NYC?
Emma: I had so many great experiences working for Girls on the Run NYC this summer. My favorite would definitely have to be the Spring 5K event! I have a strong interest in event management so being able to see all the different aspects that went into making the 5K successful was a very beneficial learning experience for me. I also just really enjoyed being apart of an atmosphere so dedicated to making the girls in program feel accomplished and strong.
Gabby: My favorite experience while interning was definitely the end of the season 5K. Watching those girls cross the finish line was extremely rewarding, especially knowing that I had something to do with their success.
Kelsey: My favorite experience while interning at Girls on the Run NYC was definitely the spring 5K. It was motivating and inspiring to see so many young girls confident, empowered, and smiling from ear to ear while running with all the encouragement and support of friends, running buddies, parents, and coaches.
Why do you identify with the Girls on the Run mission?
Emma: Throughout my experience with Girls on the Run NYC I always thought about how I wished I could have been involved in this organization as I was growing up. I identify with the Girls on the Run mission because I strongly believe organizations such as Girls on the Run have the ability to alleviate the negative pressure that society can place on girls. Throughout my time working with Girls on the Run, I have started running myself and plan to continue being apart of helping to spread the word about this inspiring organization!
Gabby: I find that I have dealt with many of the issues that Girls on the Run deals with, and as a runner myself, I felt that I could really relate to the mission. I find that to be successful in life you need to be confident, and to be confident you need to feel comfortable in your own skin, and that is exactly what Girls On The Run hopes to teach these young girls!
Kelsey: I truly can identify with the Girls on the Run mission because I think every girl should know she is valued and important. Girls on the Run successfully allows this to happen by teaching life lessons through fun running games and exercises. In addition, the girls get to be surrounded by role models, coaches and running buddies, as well as their teammates. Girls on the Run’s mission is powerful because it is not about who can win the race or who can run the farthest, it is about teaching girls how to be joyful, healthy, and confident by staying active.
The support and effort of these interns helped us wrap up an incredible spring season and prepare for a great fall season ahead! We wish these three amazing girls the best in their future endeavors!
