Today we are shining the spotlight on Molly Fitzgerald, one of our SoleMates for the 2016 TCS New York City Marathon!
Why Girls on the Run? I love the way Girls on the Run uses running—one of the most accessible forms of exercise—to help middle schoolers build confidence and self-esteem. Running has helped me push the boundaries of what I think I am capable of, and I am so glad to be able to support an organization that is teaching girls how to challenge themselves in such a supportive environment.
Is this your first marathon? Yup! Until fairly recently running a marathon was not something I ever thought I would try to do. I am still pretty intimidated by it, but I am three weeks into training now and it is going pretty well so far.
Favorite place to run? Central Park. I absolutely LOVE being there. The air feels cooler and cleaner than anywhere else in the City, and it is beautiful all year long. Sometimes I even believe it has the power to make me run faster! I feel so lucky to live less than a mile from the 110th Street entrances.
Favorite time of day to run? During the week I prefer to run in the evening, just before the sun goes down. It is always great to catch the sunset on the way home. On weekends I like mid-morning runs. I don’t love getting up super early, but do enjoy getting out there before lunchtime rolls around.
Favorite post-run snack/meal? Chocolate milk. It is delicious and supports muscle recovery (check out the proof!). But after the chocolate milk, once I’ve showered and rested up, nothing beats a good burger.
Favorite running accessory? Since I am writing this while it is very hot out, I have to say my handheld water bottle, which also has a nice little zipper compartment for my Shot Bloks (yum!).
Group or solo run? Both. I run with Harlem Run once or two a week, and would never do my speed work without the group But I also run with my boyfriend, friends, and alone, and all of them are great at different times.
What shoes do you run in? Saucony Guide. I have been through the 7s and 8s, and now have the 9s. They are supportive but still light, and they are pretty spot on with the color choices!
Favorite non-running activity? Baking, walking and eating around NYC, and loving all animals, especially this one!
Farthest distance you’ve run? 14 miles, which was 13 while training for a half marathon plus a little warm up and cool down. The answer to this question is going to change pretty soon though ☺

What’s your Myers-Briggs? ISFJ. That’s Introversion, Sensing, Feeling, Judging. I just read the Wikipedia article and it is funny how spot on this is.
