Today we spotlight Jessica Grant, a SoleMate for the 2016 NYC Half Marathon!
What motivated you to run in the NYC Half Marathon this year?
I've wanted to do the race for a few years now. Last April I fell off the horse I was riding and fractured a vertebrae. I was out of commission for months, which was really tough. I couldn't wait to start running again and once I realized that I was healing well, doing the NYC Half became a goal.
How has running been a part of your life?
I started running about 5 years ago, after my second son was born. I started with a goal of finishing a 5k. I never imagined back then that I'd be getting ready now for my 3rd half marathon and my 2nd in just 3 weeks! Running is quiet time for me, a time to myself and my own thoughts. With 2 boys, I don't get a lot of those, ha!
Why did you choose to support Girls on the Run?
A friend of mine is a big supporter of Girls on the Run and knowing how much accomplishment you can feel from training and then finishing a race, I think every young girl should have that feeling. If she can feel that, her confidence will soar and she will feel so much more comfortable when she faces other obstacles in life.
What tip do you have for other SoleMates?
Have fun! And no matter how hard it gets, just remember how awesome you will feel when its over.
What is your favorite running accessory?
My Garmin and my iPhone.
What is your favorite run in NYC?
I had a blast at the Dash to the Finish Line 5k over marathon weekend. It's so fun to get a chance to cross the marathon finish line.
