At the heart of Girls on the Run NYC are amazing volunteers whose commitment and passion change the lives of hundreds of girls across New York City each year. Our volunteers are dynamic individuals who offer their time, talents and energy to support our mission of empowering girls to become healthy and confident young women. Whether you have just a few hours a year, a season, or every month to help our cause, we would love to hear from you!
We have a variety of ways you can get involved with Girls on the Run NYC, depending on how much time and energy you have to commit to the Girls on the Run! These opportunities include:
Coaching for Girls on the Run, committing to once or twice a week for the 10 week season. Click here to learn more about Coaching and submit a Coach Application!
One-time volunteer events, ranging from our twice yearly 5k event to helping us in the office
Committee leadership, serving on a year-round committee to support our organization
If you are interested in supporting us through volunteer events or joining a committee, please read further details below and specify in your Volunteer Application your interests in terms of opportunity and time commitment.
Want to get involved right away?
Visit our Girls on the Run EVENTS page to learn about upcoming events including group runs to get to know GOTR staff & volunteers, fundraising events such as charity rides, and one-time volunteer events like joining our Cheer Stations to support our SoleMates charity athletes who fundraise for our cause while participating in endurance events!
General Volunteer Opportunities
One of the best and easiest ways to support our organization is by becoming a General Volunteer, which allows you to get involved one day or event at a time! If you are interested in being part of the Girls on the Run mission and can commit to a one time event, we can use your help.
General Volunteers are incredibly important to our organization and receive regular communications about ways to stay involved throughout the year, including prepping program materials for our coaches, assisting at small GOTR events and community fairs, making posters for our 5k, writing notes of encouragement to the girls in our program, and more! These one-time events are held in the evening, on weekends, and during the weekday, so you will have the opportunity to get involved and connect with other volunteers no matter what your schedule may be.
You can also join us for our biggest one-time opportunity, our end of season 5k! The fall 5k will be held on Sunday, December 8, at Icahn Stadium on Randall’s Island. Registration is now open at gotrnyc.org/5kinfo. The 5k is possible because of the energy of our volunteers as running buddies, course marshals, number-one-fans, and more!
If you would like to be involved with the Girls on the Run mission long-term but don't have the flexibility to coach, you can join us as a Committee Volunteer.
Committee Volunteers help our small office with communications, development, SoleMates, special events, and more. The commitment varies between committees, but every group is essential to the organization!
Please note: Those interested in becoming Committee Volunteers must attend a Volunteer Orientation as well as a committee-specific onboarding meeting. Committee Volunteers must also be at least 18 years old.
